Kolkata, May 30: A joint art exhibition titled “Five Strokes” is set to open with the aim of expressing emotions, thoughts, and diverse human experiences through art. The exhibition will be held at the New South AB Gallery, Academy of Fine Arts, from May 31 to June 6, and will remain open daily from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
The exhibition features works by artists Suravi Roy, Papiya Dutta, Suman Pati, and Bapi Pal. Notably, none of the participating artists are formally trained in art colleges. Through years of dedicated practice, guidance from mentors, and personal artistic exploration, each has developed a distinctive visual language of their own.
Through paintings, sculptures, and photography, the artists explore a wide range of themes, including the human psyche, social realities, relationships, nature, struggles of life, and questions of existence. Their works reflect contemporary issues and emotional landscapes from unique individual perspectives.
The name “Five Strokes” carries a deeper philosophical significance. The artists believe that the universe is formed through the harmony of the five elements (Panchabhuta). Inspired by this concept, artists sharing a common vision and creative spirit came together to form the collective known as Five Strokes.
The exhibition will be graced by distinguished guests, including Sanjay Mukhopadhyay, author and film scholar; Jahar Dasgupta, former President of the Academy of Fine Arts and former Principal of Birla Art College; Krishnendu Sinha, faculty member of Visual Arts and guest lecturer at Rabindra Bharati University; and Atanu Paul, eminent photo artist.
According to the organizers, Five Strokes is more than just an exhibition of artworks, it is a sincere expression of the artists’ thoughts, emotions, and journeys of self-discovery. The exhibition promises to offer art lovers, collectors, and the general public a meaningful opportunity to engage with contemporary artistic perspectives and creative expressions.
