Kolkata, August 2025 – The ongoing suspension of NEET UG counselling in West Bengal has left over 11,000 aspiring doctors in uncertainty, unable to secure admissions in MBBS and BDS courses. The delay, stemming from bureaucratic and legal complications regarding OBC reservations, has sparked widespread concern among students and parents.
Education experts warn that the indefinite halt is not just an administrative lapse but a serious setback to the students’ careers. “Every lost month means valuable training time gone for these future doctors,” said one academician. “This is the prime period of their lives; wasting it due to government inaction is unacceptable.”
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has emphasized that the academic year must begin by September 5, putting added pressure on West Bengal’s authorities to resolve the impasse quickly. Yet, as days pass, students remain in limbo, highlighting the consequences of systemic negligence.
Parents and students alike are urging the state government to act immediately, fearing that prolonged delays could jeopardize the careers and future prospects of a generation of medical professionals.
